Quiet Pauses

As August winds down, I’m starting to notice small but sure signs that the summer is coming to a close. The days are still hot, but mornings are a little cooler. Daylight is shorter, and of course, children are going back to school. The church office is now busier than I’ve ever seen it, and it’s exciting to hear the buzz and hum of a vibrant church community. Most of all, calendars that once felt wide open are filling quickly with meetings, practices, and other commitments.

In seasons like this, I need the reminder that my center isn’t grounded in how much I can get done, but in God’s steady presence. For me this requires a practice of intentional slowing down.  A simple deep breath, a moment of noticing the beauty of creation, or a short prayer help me to come back to center. Small moments of stillness become anchors, reminding me I don’t have to rush.

As we move into fall, I hope you can find quiet pauses to ground yourself in God’s presence. This can be done in the regular rhythms of the day: while driving, cooking, or going into a meeting. These moments of intentionality can remind us we are not defined by how much we accomplish or how successful we are, rather by the love of God which sustains us.
