“One of the Great Gifts of Emmanuel…”
One of the great gifts of Emmanuel is the wealth of clergy who worship in our pews. They come from a variety of backgrounds, each bringing a unique story of ministry and experience. Among us are Episcopalians, Lutherans, Methodists, and Baptists. Some have followed traditional vocational paths, while others have been led in unexpected directions that reveal the Holy Spirit’s creative work in spreading the gospel throughout a diverse world. The Rev. Jeremy Mount has one of the most fascinating stories of all.
I will not tell his story—that is his to share—but I can say Jeremy is both an Episcopal priest and an Army Chaplain. A regular at our 8:00 a.m. service, I first noticed him a couple years ago sitting in the second-to-last pew on the left. (Like a true Episcopalian, he still sits there.) When you meet him, his strong soldier’s presence quickly gives way to a smile that invites you in.
Incredibly energetic, with an evangelists and pastor’s heart, Jeremy serves our God and country with conviction and honor. His ministry gives him the unique privilege, and challenge, of caring for some of our nation’s bravest men and women, as well as their families. It is because of this ministry, and because it is a joy to share such a wonderful colleague with Emmanuel, that I have invited him to preach this Pentecost Sunday, which also falls on Memorial Day weekend.
I hope you join me in warmly welcoming Chaplain Jeremy Mount this Sunday.
