Bach’s Lunch
On Friday, the Bach’s Lunch Recital Series featured John Hatcher and City Lights Jazz to a large and enthusiastic audience. They filled our historic church with the sounds of Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, McCoy Tyner, Kurt Weill, George Gershwin, and many other luminaries of the jazz genre. If you missed the concert, it is available online at the following YouTube link:
Even after experiencing our outreach concerts in person, I find that visiting these musical respites again online is a wonderful way to relive the beautiful music that is created at Emmanuel. It makes a perfect soundtrack while you’re cooking in your kitchen, entertaining, or doing things that need a bit of musical spiritual lift.
The Bach’s Lunch Series brochure will be available to all this Sunday. Be sure to pick up your copy in the narthex, church office hallway, or outside the choir room door. The full schedule for 2025-2026 is exciting and varied. Two date confirmations this week completed the schedule.
On Friday, November 14th, the All American Brass Quintet will be performing a soul-stirring program of classical and patriotic music in honor of all military veterans. The All American Brass Quintet is the 82nd Airborne Division’s ceremonial music small ensemble. They perform many functions, from official ceremonies to local community events. Additionally, they conduct clinics and master classes for high school and college music students, sharing years of experience and musical knowledge with aspiring musicians while demonstrating the professionalism of the Army.
On Friday, December 5th, young organist Brody Bett will perform. Brody is a highly sought after 15-year-old multi-instrumentalist and singer. He fell in love with the "king of instruments" at 6 years old and it is his biggest passion. Since then, he has traveled the country playing some of the world’s largest pipe organs including the famous Wanamaker Grand Court Organ, the Midmer-Losh in Atlantic City, Salt Lake City Tabernacle, Disney Concert Hall and the Hazel Wright Organ at Christ Cathedral in California.
Brody has been the guest artist for the Greensboro Symphony, featured half time artist for the NFL Carolina Panthers and performed for the L’Organo Series at The Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. He will perform a concert for the American Guild of Organists National Convention in 2026. He has a large following on social media where he posts organ and music videos. His goal is to spread the beauty of the pipe organ and bring in people who may have never heard or been interested in them. He especially wants to reach young people and be an inspiration and advocate for these beautiful instruments.
Our next Bach’s Lunch concert is on Friday, October 3rd at Noon featuring the North Carolina Baroque Chamber Orchestra, a nonprofit organization composed of professional musicians specializing in historically informed performance of 17th and 18th century music on period instruments. The chamber players consist of Martie Perry and David Wilson, violins, Barbara Krumdieck, cello, and Barbara Weiss, harpsichord. Together, these musicians will fill our church with the sounds Buonamente, Bach, Corelli, Telemann, Handel, and Vivaldi, transporting us to an era of musical opulence, grandeur, and emotional energy.
