Bach’s Lunch & Music Opportunities
On Friday, our Bach’s Lunch series launched its 16th season with a brilliant program by Dr. Kristina Henckel. Her performance was in preparation for a European tour that she will be embarking on next week, and it also marked the start of the programmatic year for the music ministry of our parish.
Our Bach’s Lunch Recital Series was established in December of 2010, providing a monthly lunchtime respite as a musical outreach arm of our parish. A complete series brochure will be available at the end of next week, but in the meantime, please mark your calendars for the following upcoming Bach’s Lunch concerts. All concerts are held on a Friday at Noon in the church. Attendees are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy during the music. These programs are wonderful opportunities for you to introduce your friends and neighbors to our parish.

The Cherub Choir – Rehearses every Wednesday in the Choir Room 4 P.M. to 4:45 P.M. for those aged 4 through second grade. Singers learn the fundamentals of music and sing monthly for the 10 A.M. Eucharist.
The Chorister Choir – Rehearses every Wednesday in the Choir Room from 5 P.M. to 6 P.M. For those in grades 3-12. Sings weekly at the 10 A.M. Eucharist with The Emmanuel Choir. Choristers learn more advanced musical techniques and theory, learn repertoire from the vast corpus of Western sacred music, attend summer courses at Duke University, and earn a small stipend for their hard work.
The Emmanuel Choir – Rehearses every Wednesday in the Choir Room and church from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Sings weekly at the 10 A.M. Eucharist and special services throughout the year, offering some of the best choral music composed for sacred use.
The Red Door Ringers – Rehearses every Thursday in the church from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M., ringing 5 octaves of Malmark Handbells and 4 octaves of Malmark Handchimes. This fun-loving group rings monthly for the 10 A.M. Eucharist. Additionally, the Red Door Ringers travel to Lutheridge in Asheville every February for a weekend handbell retreat to strengthen their musical skills.
If you or your children have an interest in serving the church through music, please come to a rehearsal, or reach out to me at hferguson@emmanuel-parish.org or directly at 480-205-1857 with any questions or to discuss the opportunities available to you. New singers and ringers are welcome at any time throughout the year.
