Nursery & Alleluia Chapel
Our nursery staff provides a safe and environment for our children, providing their parents with the time to worship and attend Christian Formation. Our Nursery attendants are Safe Church certified in compliance with the guidelines from the Diocese of North Carolina.

Registration: All children must have a registration form completed and on file in the nursery. They are available in the nursery or the church office. Forms can be completed either prior to Sunday morning, or when you drop off your child. Please see nursery guidelines at the bottom of this page.

Age: The nursery is available for newborns through three years old. All healthy infants and toddlers are welcome to attend while their families attend services, Christian Formation and fellowship on the church campus. Parents must be on the Emmanuel campus if their child(ren) is/are in the nursery. If your child is four or older, we encourage you to take them to church.* There is Children’s Formation (Sunday school) for all children ages 3 and up at 10:10 a.m.

Hours: The nursery is open from 8:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. to accommodate those attending the 9 a.m. service, Christian Formation hour and the 11 a.m. service. During summer hours the nursery is open from 8:45 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.

Note: Please remember to be prompt in picking up your child (children) at the end of Worship or Christian Education. Thank you.

Location: We are located in the Parish House which is in front of the Parish Hall on Ridge St. There is a playground in the front of the building.

Snacks: Snacks are provided. If your child has any food allergies, please bring in a labeled snack.

Special Events: There are times throughout the year when special fellowship events are held. If the nursery is open during one of these events, reservations are required.

Please see nursery guidelines below.

 Alleluia Chapel:

During the 9 a.m. service in the fall/winter and spring, and the 10 a.m. service in the summer, all children age four through seven are invited to Alleluia chapel. They follow the Crucifer out of the church after the opening sentences and go to the Parish Hall. The liturgy and activities are led by volunteers Tarra and Steve Millender, who are assisted by other parent volunteers. Each week there is a scriptural study based on the Gospel reading for that Sunday. They return to the service after the sermon and the prayers of the people, in time for communion.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church Nursery Guidelines:
  1. Nursery workers will be in the nursery from 8:45 am until 12:15 pm on Sunday mornings.
  2. Nursery care is only for children ages 3 months.
  3. Parents need to sign in and sign out children. Please note any special instructions on the sign-in sheet.
  4. Children must be picked up by a parent or guardian.

Discipline for Biting and Aggressive Behaviors:

The following steps will be taken to curb biting or other aggressive behaviors.

1.    Notify parent and issue a warning.

2.    Text to parent(s), issue a second warning and the child immediately picked up by the parent.

Biting and aggressive behavior is a typical, but not acceptable behavior of children in the Emmanuel Episcopal nursery. It usually is short-term and preempted by frustration or the many physical changes that a child’s body goes through in such a short period of time. The guidelines above are necessary to protect the health and safety of all of the children.  Biting can be a major source of infection to the child that bites as well the child who is bitten.  Any aggressive behavior puts fear in the children and makes it hard for them to enjoy their playtime.  The caregiver will try hard to work with each child that becomes aggressive.  Time-outs are used which separates the aggressive child from their peers and gives them an opportunity to collect him/herself. This usually curbs continued aggressive behavior. However, notifying you makes you aware of the situation and enables you to work on changing their behavior.

Wellness Policy:

In order to prevent the spread of illness, please keep your child home if the child has:

  1.  A fever
  2. A croupy or productive cough
  3. Any undiagnosed or infectious rash (diaper rash included).
  4. If your child has had signs of a stomach virus or has had a virus in the last 24 hours (i.e. diarrhea and/or vomitting)
  5. Profuse nasal discharge
  6. Head lice, pinworms, pinkeye, ringworm, impetigo, etc.

Children should not return to the nursery until he or she has been without a temperature or any of the above symptoms for 24 hours. This is for their safety as well as the protection of the other children.  Thank you for helping to keep our nursery a healthy, nurturing environment!
