Opportunities for Outreach
Emmanuel Epsicopal Church has many opportunites to give back to the community through our outreach ministries. Emmanuel works with Moore County Schools in partnerships with various local non-profit organizations. Below we have a listing of the ministries featured in our 'Opportunites for Community Outreach' booklet. The booklet may be found in the Narthex, outside the Library, or in the Parish Hall foyer and contains more detailed contact information for the various groups. Back Pack Pals
Executive Director: Linda Hubbard
Back Pack Pals, is a program of Moore County Schools in
partnership with various local non-profit organizations. The
Food Bank of Southeastern North Carolina, local county churches, organizations, and businesses work together to provide school aged children a supply of nutritious food to consume on weekends and holidays when school is not in session. School officials identify students who would benefit from this program. Parents or guardians are then notified and permission for participation is requested. Once permission is granted, a back pack filled with a variety of nourishing foods is issued to the student on Friday and returned by the student on Monday. The process of maintaining anonymity is of the utmost importance for these selected students, and school leaders ensue the maintenance of the process.
Volunteer Opportunities: Donation of food items (raisins),
transportation of items from Emmanuel to the Food Bank and
packing of back packs at the Food Bank.

Bethany House, Inc.
House Director: Cynthia Curtis
Bethany Houseis a nonprofit, charitable corporation dedicated
to providing a clean and sober living environment for women
recovering from substance abuse in the south-central region
of North Carolina. Residents are adult women who are
motivated to continue their recovery. Bethany House provides
a clean, safe, structured and supportive home-like setting
before returning to active family, social, and community life.
The mission for each and every resident is:
*To be gainfully employed, actively seeking employment, or
enrolled in school
*To seek new found sober activities enhancing one’s future
*To be actively involved with 12 Step Meetings and Sponsorship
*To build self esteem by adhering to above principles
*To become a productive, clean, sober member of society
*To secure savings and seek or return to own living arrangements

Family Promise
Executive Director: Susan Bellew
Family Promiseis a nonprofit agency that offers a community
response for homeless families in Moore County. Assistance
is provided through a network of participating host and
support congregations, a Board of Trustees, and the Executive
Director.
Family Promise currently operates two programs:
*Shelter Program- With the help of a network of congregations,
Family Promisehelps homeless families achieve
sustainable independence by providing temporary shelter, meals, transportation, and support to qualified clients.
*Wheels to Work- Donated vehicles in good running condition are placed with well-qualified, low income workers in Moore County at a nominal cost.
Volunteer Opportunities: Evening Hosts, Overnight Hosts, Meal Preparers, Van Drivers, Office Assistance, and Board Members.

Friend to Friend

MISSION: To help build a community in which everyone is free
from the threat of physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
Friend to Friend is a nonprofit organization that offers help to all persons affected by domestic violence and sexual abuse.
Each year Friend to Friendperforms many services to victims of abuse:
*Providing needed shelter to women and children
*Serving meals at their shelter, Haven House
*Assistance with emergency restraining orders
*Providing counseling sessions
*Educating students on how to deal with anger and abusive relationships

Guardian Ad Litem
Executive Director: April Ferrell
Guardian Ad Litemis a statewide program that provides children with an independent voice and advocates for abused and neglected children, who are involved in court proceedings. A volunteer Guardian Ad Litem and an Attorney Advocate are
jointly appointed by a judge. Their duty is to ensure protection
of the child’s legal rights and to promote the best interests of
the child.

MISSION: Our mission is to partner with families in need and the entire community to build or repair decent, affordable homes.
Vision: In recognition of the value of every human life, our vision is to end substandard housing in the Sandhills region and to make shelter for everyone a matter of conscience.
Habitat for Humanity welcomes new volunteers to assist us in
building low income housing for God’s people in need. Volunteers are the core of our mission in Moore County.

MANNA

MISSION: To provide nourishing meals in a safe, warm,
caring environment free of charge to anyone who comes
seeking nourishment regardless of age, sex, race,
financial qualifications, or religious beliefs. Moore Alliance Nourishing Neighbors Amen! is an ecumenical and
community effort to feed the hungry of Moore County effectively and efficiently by providing prepared meals which are taken to feeding sites in areas of need. Emmanuel Parish serves as a preparation site.
Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to prepare
meals at Emmanuel Church two mornings per month.

Moore Buddies

Moore Buddiesis a nonprofit agency which works directly with
underprivileged youth or those who are at risk of not reaching their full potential without the added support from the community. Moore Buddiesprovides individualized services and support for youth and their families.
The Governor’s One-On-One program takes the lead in mentoring programs serving at-risk youth. Despite the term “at-risk,” Moore Buddies considers their youth to be “of promise.” The program matches adult volunteer mentors who are willing to give their time, energy and compassion to the program’s youth. A mentor can help youth achieve goals, improve behaviors and raise self-reliance. Moore Buddies offers monthly activities and on-going support to mentors and youth throughout the year to support and encourage these friendships.

Sandhills/ Moore Coalition For Human Care, Inc.

MISSION:To meet the emergency needs of our Moore County neighbors by providing food, clothing and financial resources and to collaborate with appropriate agencies for clients with ongoing needs.
The Coalition is a faith based, nondenominational, charitable agency which was founded in 1986 by twelve area churches to minister to the poor and needy in Moore County. Along with 67 area churches, The Coalition also works with government and nonprofit agencies in Moore County including local schools, The Salvation Army, The Red Cross, Family Promise, Department of Social Services and First Health of the Carolinas. Prospective clients are privately screened by a Coalition volunteer to review their situation and determine the level of assistance to be provided. Typically clients request and receive food, clothes and financial assistance. Over 250 volunteers make the mission of The Coalition possible.

Moore County Literacy Council

MISSION: To teach Moore people to read.
The Moore County Literacy Councilis a nonprofit, volunteer
based organization, which offers a variety of opportunities for
basic learning--always at no cost to those served.
After the learning level and needs of students are assessed, they are matched with a trained tutor and weekly sessions are
scheduled.
There are four programs:
*Adult Basic Education (ABE): One-on-one tutoring with English
speaking adults in reading, writing and math.
*English as a Second Language (ESL): One-on-one tutoring with
non-English speaking adults in reading, writing and conversation.

Moore Free Care Clinic

MISSION: In the spirit of compassion and concern, the Moore Free Care Clinic provides high-quality primary care, preventive and specialty health care to limited income people of Moore County, who are uninsured and cannot afford access to health care.

As a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, Penick Village’s mission is to create a loving community that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit.
Penick Village’s vision is to provide a home for older adults that deinstitutionalizes the aging experience. The uncompromising commitment to this vision Influences every decision made on behalf of Penick Village.
Since its inception nearly 45 years ago, Penick Village has also remained true to Bishop Penick’s vision that no resident be turned out for lack of funds. Each year, the Benevolent Assistance Fund ensures that those residents, who have outlived their resources, will be well cared for in beautiful facilities by superior staff. This year, about 20% of all residents will receive some aid, which will total about $930,000 for the year, most of which must be raised through contributions.

Emmanuel Episcopal Thrift Shop

Hours of Operation: The Thrift Shop is open for
donations only on Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until Noon and for sales
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Donations are accepted any time
the Shop is open.
MISSION: Begun in 1932, the Thrift Shop continues to serve the Emmanuel church family and the Moore County community at large by providing funds generated by the sale of donated clothing and household items to charitable organizations. The opportunity to turn quality items no longer needed by their original owners into funds which assist those in need is unique to the Thrift Shop experience. In 2009 alone, the Thrift Shop raised and donated $50,000 to area charities. The Thrift Shop is staffed completely by volunteers most of whom have many years of dedicated service to this mission.
