Christian Formation
Adult Formation, Faith Matters, Rector's Bible Study, Youth Formation, Youth Group, Alleluia Chapel, Vacation Bible School
Led by the Rector, other clergy and guest speakers, these are in depth discussions of varying subjects--Book of Common Prayer, Faith and Politics, an Instructed Eucharist, Church History, and Seeing the Face of God in Each Other are a few examples. After a brief lecture, the group is divided up into small groups for further discussion. Our goal is to meet you where you are, accepting both your certainties and your doubts and invite you into the community with us. All are welcome.

Over the past twelve years, Faith Matters has been written and presented as a survey of the Christian faith in the tradition of the Episcopal Church. The course is open to those preparing for baptism, confirmation, reception or reaffirmation of their baptismal vows as well as the entire congregation, including those who are new to Emmanuel.

There is Sunday school for ages three through eighteen, or Pre-K through twelfth grade. Sunday School is held each year from mid-August through mid-May. We use the Episcopal Children's Curriculum for all age levels. The curriculum is both "biblically based" and "liturgically oriented". This is to assist every member in living out the covenant made in Holy Baptism. The classes are dividedup as follows; Pre-K & K, 1st & 2nd grades, 3rd & 4th grades, 5th & 6th grades, 7th & 8th grades and 9th through 12th grades.

After opening sentences, children ages three to seven may follow the Crucifer to the library for Alleluia Chapel. The liturgy is led by one of our clergy, assisted by parent volunteers. Each week there is a scriptual study based on the Gospel reading of that day. They return to the service after the Sermon and the Prayers of the People and in time for communion. Vacation Bible School is held every year in June; we serve not only Emmanuel, but Episcopal Day School and the wider community. We have had fun adventure themes ranging from the Arctic to Lava Island to Avalanche Ranch, to a Pirate's Cove. VBS is staffed by our youth members and adult volunteers. A great time is had by all! |
